  Presidential Message

As the President of Asia Pacific Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (APOSSM) from 2010 to 2012, I would like to welcome you to our society. APOSSM was first established in 1995 by Prof. KM Chan. This society is collaborating with other regional societies such as ESSKA in Europe, AOSSM in North America, and SLARD in Latin America. We are under the umbrella of the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS). APOSSM is highly recognized as the regional leader in sports medicine.

Academic meeting of APOSSM is held every two years. This year (2010), the 7th biennial congress of APOSSM was held in Okinawa, Japan, combined with the 2nd Congress of Japanese Orthopaedic Society of Knee, Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine (JOSKAS). Approximately 1,800 participants attended the meeting to share their knowledge and experiences. At this meeting, Prof. KM Chan gave a Presidential lecture regarding the future of APOSSM. As he mentioned in his speech, APOSSM needs to be re-structured to make it even stronger and better. We are trying to realize this in the near future to make APOSSM the true counterpart of other regional societies. After this meeting, I took over Prof. KM Chan to be the President of APOSSM 2010 - 2012. The Secretary General is Dr. Patrick Yung and the office remains in Hong Kong. We invite any doctors in Asia Pacific region who are interested in sports medicine. We need your young energetic power. Come and join us!!

Eiji Itoi, MD, PhD
